Yvette McLean of Yves Garden

The 277th recipient is Yvette McLean of Yves Garden @yvesgarden in Douglasville, GA. Yvette writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “The ability to balance and manage my work time on the farm to prevent burnout, stressful situations, injury, and health issues. I do this by: Setting time out for relaxation, family, friends and networking with other farming supportive entities to learn, grow and share farming experiences. Maintaining good health by eating a nutrient dense diet, getting at least 6-8 hrs sleep daily, using the proper tools and techniques in a mindful way to prevent extra work, crop failures, and possible injuries. Dressing appropriately for comfort and the weather (include boots and gloves), and it is very important to carve out a daily work plan and stick to it. It is also very important to stay hydrated.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I will buy a new pair of boots to replace the current pair that have holes in the soles.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Getting additional help/labor on the farm. Cutting back very long hours by an hour or two.”
