The 639th recipient is Jordan Goldsmith of Moonrose Farm in Rehoboth, MA. Jordan writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self care is essential to replenish your body with much needed rest, relaxation, and repair. Massage is the most important way I stay flexible and avoid injury so I can stay farming for as long as possible. I feel that taking care of our bodies is easily overlooked, especially in the heat of July, but it's important to remember the daily care we award to our plants and animals is vital for their survival- as is ours. We have to fertilize and water and weed and prune ourselves along with the garden to get the best fruit from the patch.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I will use it towards a deep tissue massage from a sports injury specialist masseuse that helps me avoid injury. I have recurring injuries from overuse and the nature of long hours on my hands and knees / lifting heavy objects. This type of massage therapy provides relief for my injuries and gives me more stamina to keep going.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "I think money could be seen as a self care need- if someone just gave you $100 and said go get yourself dinner tonight it would feel like the ultimate form of being cared for. Small grants like this make it possible for farmers to get taken care of for once instead of taking care of everyone and everything else.”
