The 500th recipient is Tracy Galloway of Galloway Family Farm in Ocean Springs, MS. Tracy writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care and well-being in farming and ranching mean maintaining a balance between the demanding physical, mental, and emotional aspects of agricultural life. Farmers and ranchers often work long hours in unpredictable conditions, making it essential to prioritize personal health to sustain both productivity and passion for the land. Physical well-being involves proper nutrition, hydration, rest, and injury prevention. Farming is labor-intensive, so by listening to my body, stretching, and using ergonomic tools can reduce strain and prevent me from experiencing burnout. Mental and emotional well-being are equally critical. The stress of unpredictable weather, market fluctuations, and livestock care can take a toll, making mindfulness, connection with loved ones, and seeking support from fellow farmers vital. By taking time to step away from daily tasks, even briefly, helps me maintain perspective. Whether it’s enjoying a sunrise, sharing a meal with family, or simply taking deep breaths in the open air, these small moments contribute to long-term resilience. Additionally, incorporating my wood working and other hobbies, exercise, and faith-based practices helps me provide balance and purpose beyond my farm responsibilities. Ultimately, self-care in farming is about sustainability—not just for the land but for the individuals who cultivate it. A healthy farmer ensures a thriving farm, and prioritizing well-being allows for longevity in both work and life.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “A massage or chiropractic visit and the purchase of high-quality gel or orthopedic insoles.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "The most important self-care needs for me as a farmer revolve around physical recovery, stress management, and proper nutrition. Farming is physically demanding and mentally exhausting, making it crucial for me to maintain overall well-being to sustain both productivity and personal health.”
