What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care and well-being in the context of farming and ranching means maintaining a sustainable balance between the demands of the land and the needs of the farmer. It involves caring for my physical health through rest, nutrition, and injury prevention; nurturing my mental and emotional resilience by managing stress, staying connected with supportive networks, and finding moments of peace in the work; and tending to spiritual well-being by honoring the deep connection I feel with the land, animals, and seasons. For me, self-care ensures I can continue this work with purpose, clarity, and longevity—not just surviving, but thriving on the farm and in life.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “If awarded the $100, I would take my wife out for a nice dinner to reconnect and relax together—something we rarely do but deeply value. The remaining funds would go toward purchasing herbal supplements that support our physical and emotional well-being as farmers. For us, self-care includes nurturing our relationship and maintaining the energy and clarity needed to care for our land and animals.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "The most important self-care needs for me as a farmer are physical recovery, emotional resilience, and meaningful connection. Farming is physically demanding, so rest, nutrition, and natural remedies are essential for managing pain and preventing burnout. Equally important is caring for my mental and emotional health—staying grounded through stress, staying connected with my spouse, and finding moments of peace in nature. When I tend to these needs, I’m better able to care for the land, animals, and people around me with purpose and strength.”
