RECIPIENTS

Stephen Murray of Heart Beets Farm

The 325th recipient is Stephen Murray of Heart Beets Farm @heartbeetsfarm in Berkley, MA. Stephan writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Making sure you don't put off the things that keep you healthy and functioning. Be that scheduling a dermatologist appointment, scheduling a massage or buying new socks. Sometimes it is making the essential happen and sometimes it is going beyond to take care of some of the higher needs.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would either buy a new set of warm socks for this winter, schedule a medical massage to work out all the summer muscle aches or take my family to the movies.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Having the time, money and health to do other things I love doing outside of farming. Currently access to free health care is the most essential need I have - it means I can continue to take care of my mental health.”
