RECIPIENTS

Sally Boisvert of Four Winds Farm

The 296th recipient is Sally Boisvert of Four Winds Farm @fourwindsfarmhainesalaska in Haines, AK. Sally writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care and well-being, in the context as my career and life as a farmer, is defined as my collective pursuits to enhance my physical abilities to comfortably farm in the present, avoiding injuries and chronic overuse, and to ensure that I am physically able to continue farming for at least two more decades. For me, this largely means strength training and physical therapy in the off-season.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “There is a gym near my farm that offers weekly strength training classes in the winter, for $10/class. I have never done a formal class before, and I would use the award to sign up for ten strength training classes at the fitness center! Maintaining my strength in the off season is becoming more important as a woman in my forties, having been farming for 13 years now.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Physical therapy for on-going overuse injuries is very important to me. I am able to access this through my medicaid insurance plan, but it does not cover things like strength training classes at a fitness center or gym.”
