The 600th recipient is Sadie Burgher of Liberty Farms in Ghent, NY. Sadie writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “When I first began vegetable farming in 2024, I quickly realized how important taking care of my body would be in order to make it through the season while truly enjoying my work. I learned that self care required the discipline and preparation of going to bed early, planning and cooking nutritious meals, ensuring I had time to stretch and  eat a real breakfast before work. As it got hot, I realized the importance of hydrating at home as well as throughout the workday, making time to rest my body on the weekends, and finding a balance between recharging alone and connecting with friends. In short, I learned that self care and well-being required a lot of thought and effort. I found that the effort was completely worth it to me, as it allowed me to do my job well and know that I was taking good care of myself.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I plan to use the award to purchase a new yoga mat, which will be used to stretch in the mornings and evenings.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "My greatest self care need this season is making the space and time to warm up and stretch my body. It can be difficult to get up and find time to stretch on mornings when my body needs the maximum amount of sleep, but the difference in how I’m able to move at work makes a huge difference.”
