What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care and well-being are so important for farmers, but are often overlooked in the farming community. I think people think farmers should be able to work through any pain and shouldn't have to take time for themselves, but this is far from the truth. Farmer's also do not have a lot of money to spend on themselves. Unfortunately this means many farmers suffer physical pain due to the nature of their job, but never get the proper care they need to recover after difficult seasons. I believe proper self-care is needed for a person to excel in anything they do, especially in a job that is so demanding. For a farmer, I think self-care can be a massage or chiropractor appointment or simply going out for a nice dinner. These things are very important in order to help you excel at your job.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would use this award to help my body properly recover at the end of a very physical farm season by getting massage treatments.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Personally, physical self-care needs contribute the most to my well-being. My body is very tired by the end of the season. Stretching really helps me recover and prepare for each week of farming. I would really like to add massages to my self-care list. I believe this would really help my body recover throughout the season and after.”
