What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Uncompromised scheduled appointments of time dedicated to physical and mental upkeep of our bodies consecutively for stress management and well being. For myself and my underlying health conditions, self care maintenance is pivotal to run our small indigenous woman owned family farm. If I'm not at peak performance operations could come to a stand still which can be detrimental to any business. Therefore scheduled appointments to the: masseuse (back and foot arthritis and sciatica monthly), manicure pedicure (monthly), hair salon (every 6 weeks), and spa facials (every 6 weeks staggered schedule due to all other cares listed) are critical to our farm operating. Budgeting and committing to self care supports my well being which improves my families quality of life.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would use the award to cover the cost of any one of the therapies or treatments I listed in the above question. Massage, manicure and pedicure,, spa facial, hair salon are what I've found relieve my stress during farm season and year round. These physical actions work together to align my mental physical and spiritual well-being on this earth at this moment in time which most definitely allows us to 'walk in beauty' as the Dine culture taught us.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "The most important self care need that would contribute the most to my well being is massage. Deep tissue massage offers my health conditions relief for pain management. It also supports focus and energy for pre and post harvest during the most volatile weather scenarios in my region.”
