What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Being self employed as a farmer is an extremely challenging yet rewarding career. As a first generation farmer that started with nothing I've hit rock bottom twice in my career. Fortunately, I'm fortunate to have a great support group that encourages me to not work 24/7. However, that's pretty tough not to do. But I'm growing into the realization that taking care of myself (in all aspects of health) helps me be a better employer, father, farmer, husband, etc. I could rattle on the various things I'm doing to improve my self care, but admitting that self care is important and something I continue to work to do I imagine is sufficient.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would spend the award towards a nice meal with my wife away from the farm and not worry about the expense!”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "My most important self care need is realizing that my ego wanting to work 100 hours a week is so silly. There's a lot more to life than working all the time, and in fact, I think I can be a much better farmer if I work less.”
