RECIPIENTS

Laverne Glick of Hickory Run Homestead

The 315th recipient is Laverne Glick of Hickory Run Homestead @hickoryrunhomestead in Sunbury, PA. Laverne writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Rest is critical for self-care. By rest, I mean getting my mind on something other than the farm, and leaving the farm helps with that. When I allow my mind to run in circles about the farm, always researching and exploring farm ideas, I easily get overwhelmed and lose energy for the farm. I need to research and explore ideas, yes, but I also need my mind to engage with other ideas. For me, self-care means caring for the state of mind so that I can maintain the emotional stamina and physical health to do the work of farming.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “Probably some sort of getaway, whether it's to a restaurant or going on a camping trip or doing a social activity that doesn't have to do with my farm.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Having activities that engage my mind on something other than my farm.”
