The 605th recipient is Julie Young of Well By Nature Farm in Lafayette, GA. Julie writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care includes the actions we take as farmers and ranchers in order to keep our minds and bodies healthy and resilient for the demanding career of agriculture. Self-care can be as simple as carving out one hour a month to let tired, overworked muscles fully relax for a massage or yoga class. Self-care could also be hiring a farm sitter for a single night away from the constant responsibilities of the farm. Self-care for farmers does not have to be complicated or extravagant, but it needs to be a priority if longevity in the field is the goal.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would get a massage to relax my overworked muscles and help to ease a chronic hamstring issue.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Having the time and resources for a gym membership and monthly massage would be excellent self-care for any farmer or rancher to increase their stamina, reduce injuries, and improve longevity in the field.”
