The 385th recipient is Erin Worrall of The Cedar Chest Farm in Blacksburg, VA. Erin writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Farmers tend to neglect their mind and body as the most important tools to the sustainable success of their farm. After three seasons of digging deep to establish my new farm, I’ve realized just how severely I’ve neglected the self care routines that are essential to my own thriving, and thus the farm. If we want small farms to succeed, we need to provide systems of support that prevent burnout.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I have recently begun counseling for the significant impact farming has had on my marriage. This award would help pay for a counseling session.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Regular non-farm exercise, counseling, and healthy prepared meals. Oh and childcare!”
