What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care means respecting my own boundaries I have with myself. I can’t do the work of being a community leader, a young/beginning farmer starting their own farm cooperative, and most importantly, being a present, and single mother to my beautiful daughter, without self care and keeping my well being at the top of my priority list. Doing this work is like running a marathon and I can’t be burning myself out and wonder why I’m depressed or not progressing as much as I ‘should’.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would put it towards taking myself somewhere special for my birthday. It’s always pretty lousy weather around my birthday, so I usually treat myself to a staycation or full on vacation if I can afford it. I can see myself using this towards a nice hotel room that I can be in the whole 24 hour stay and allow myself to do NOTHING.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Mentally clocking out every once in a while. I have a bad habit of making lists and solving problems in my head at all hours of the day (and night).”
