The 624th recipient is Chelsie Ver Mulm of Orange Creek Farms in Rock Valley, IA. Chelsie writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care to me means being able to buy something or do something that is not a necessity for the farm. As a farmer that is on meds for anxiety and depression, and a farm that is on the edge of having to shut down, all my current money goes to keeping the farm going and feeding the animals we have. Having any amount of money that is meant to be used just for something I would like to do is a way to give myself a break and a treat for what I am currently having to handle.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I enjoy reading and trying new restaurants so I would buy a couple new books and pick a restaurant off of my list to try.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Having a way to take a break from the farm without having to worry about what will go wrong would be a huge bump for my mental health. Even being able to go on a day trip that isn't because I need to deliver meat or restock stores would be a luxury to me at this point as I don't go anywhere unless I have farm business there first.”
