What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self care is what powers farming. We can’t just use our body and not give back to it. I suffered an injury (cervical disc herniation) last year that blew up my world and it was only through the self care of gentleness, body work, acupuncture, physical therapy, therapy therapy, massage, and self love that I’m back farming and recovered from my injury. That totally changed how I farm, and how much I prioritize caring for my body so that I can continue to do this long term. Four years farming now and many more to go.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”Ya girl will be getting a massage targeting these hamstrings!! My legs have been giving me increasing trouble with my hamstrings pulling on my hips and low back. I’m doing lots of stretching but would love to get my fave massage therapist in there to do some much needed muscle release. Been a hot minute since I seen her!”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "With how high demand go-go-go our farm operation is (we love it but we work hard to get it all done), the biggest self care need is SLOWNESS. Allowing my muscles the time to unclench, relax, find ease, and inhabit my body in a soft and gentle way. Massage is a great way to tune into that slowness.”
