The 578th recipient is Caroline Hatano of Choy Division in Chester, NY. Caroline writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Being able to take care of our bodies and minds (and farm communities) in a way that ensures we'll be able to keep farming for as long as we'd like to.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I'd use the $100 award to throw a dinner party for my farm crew. Our manager (the owner of the farm) Christina Chan broke her ankle a few weeks ago, and has had to be away from the farm during our peak growing season. It's not only been hard for our small crew working without her, it's also been alienating for her to be away from the farm recovering from surgery, without the company of the farm and her community. I'd love for us to all share a meal together to revive and renew our spirits.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Being able to share good food in community.”
