The 593rd recipient is Carie Starr of Cherokee Valley Bison Ranch in Thornville, OH. Carie writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Farming is hard on the body. It’s our most valuable tool. Finding ways to nurture the body and stay fit is crucial for that tool. I walk at least two miles nearly every day, do yoga and resistance training so that I am strong and able to do the vigorous work needed. I’m also getting older so strength training is important for healthy bones.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would use the award for a massage or reflexology. My feet hurt all the time so foot rubs are the ULTIMATE joy.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Carving out some time to love my body with a massage would be amazing.”
