The 372nd recipient is Angelie Ryah of Belong Farm in Ramona, CA. Angelie writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “As a second year farmer, I am experiencing (not just thinking about) how vital self-care is! Last year I leveled up for my incubator farm and was proud of myself for that. This year has required another level-up because I had to start over in a new location, and it felt like twice the challenge. So self-care has meant commitment to disciplines of yoga, good sleep, healthy food, consistent workouts, and really staying on top of muscle strains. And boundaries! I can't farm every day and stay sane. So time with friends is super important to combat the isolation of farming.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “Oh do I love a deep-tissue massage! It makes such a difference in working out strains and pulled muscles.  I even know a really experienced practitioner who works miracles but I haven't seen her in a while. I'm overdue!  Or I would apply it to my YMCA membership which I have decided is an essential expense to keep my body functioning well. I can really tell if I haven't been to the gym in a few days.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "For me, it's taking care of my physical body. It has been sobering to realize that if I get injured and don't get it treated quickly and then can't use my arm for a week, it has serious consequences to my farm business, and mental health from the stress of knowing what isn't getting done.”
