The 626th recipient is Alexis Williams of iGrow Community Garden in Tallahassee, Florida. Alexis writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Farmers are the most important workers in the world because we need food to survive. Agriculture requires humility, consistency and hard work to see meaningful results. In ancient times prior to colonization and modern technology, farmers were much more valued. However in today’s world, farmers are often dismissed and denied of human rights.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: ”I would use these funds to purchase herbs and materials for my land-based art practice. This would help to alleviate financial stress in other areas and allow me to invest more time into creative research and exploration. Art is a form of healing that connects me to my roots.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "The most important self care need for me as a farmer is the ability to create. I believe that everyone is an artist because we all have the creative spark within us. When we become caught up in working for community or in different jobs to make ends meet, our creative energy often becomes suppressed which can lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Taking the time to slow down, live in the present moment and listen to our intuition can bring a wealth of joy, happiness and new ideas. I love when I get into a flow state and become completely immersed in what I’m making.”
