The 510th recipient is Alexandria McConkey of Diamond Hill Farm in Winterville, GA. Alexandria writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “My well being as a farmer is dependent on my physical health. Taking the time outside of work to strengthen my body either through healthy eating habits or exercise in order to prevent injuries is vital. I also think it’s important to engage in off farm activities, since the land can be so all consuming, like indulging in a good book or spending time with friends.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would like to use the award to visit a sports massage therapist. It would be a gift that keeps on giving. Not only would I receive a deep tissue massage, but also an anatomy lesson with take home exercises and stretches.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "To me the most important self care need would be physical wellbeing. I would like to be in this profession for a long time not a good time. Specifically, I would love to learn how to properly cope with extreme heat. I find that in the summers I am unable to do anything else with my day besides work because of the extreme physical and mental exhaustion caused by the heat.”
