Our 129th Real Farmer Care recipient is Serena of Another Spring Farm @anotherspringfarm in Portland, OR.
Serena writes, “Hi I’m Serena and I use they and she pronouns. I’m a Black and Japanese queer femme farmer and I am starting a small scale mixed veggies, flower and herb farm for this 2021 season. While starting a farm comes with a lot of unknowns, farming is the one thing that I have no question about spending my time doing. The challenge is systemic barriers that have been historically and currently successful at reducing access to land for BIPOC and startup capital for any type business venture. I am currently trying to raise funds to cover start up costs and I will continue to ask for support from the community since I have the mission of feeding BIPOC households for free. I believe in redistribution of capital and this is one way to take action in this effort. Another Spring Farm will continue to raise funds so that our queer Black and Brown folks can stay nourished.”
