What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Taking a few dollars or a few moments to care for your body/mind/spirit so that you can be the best farmer, neighbor, and human that you can. I do not believe that self care is an isolated, consumerist practice. Particularly in farming and ranching, self care is community care. We are all in this together, so caring for all and caring for one go hand-in-hand.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “The first thought I had was that a massage to heal my body and allow it to continue working for me and for my community would be a great use of these funds. However, when I thought more about the small dollar amount and the impact I could have, I started thinking that perhaps taking a few of my fellow female farmers out for a drink to connect and commiserate might actually be the best self and community healing activity I could do to stretch these dollars!”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Body: Massage, physical therapy, and non-farming stretching and exercise to keep my body healthy and whole. Community: We are so isolated as farmers, particularly female farmers. Time to relax and share and learn from my fellow farmers is precious and nourishing.”
