The 264th recipient is Olivia McClure of Pohaha I Kalani @pohahaikalani in Kurtistown, HI. Olivia writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care to me is tending to the land as I would tend to myself. Doing things like clearing invasive species, planting natives, and harbingers fruits. Doing things in alignment with the moon cycle as well. Doing these things for the ‘āina (land) makes me feel cleared, nourished, and well.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would use the award to put towards my truck fund. I have been trying to save to afford a 4WD truck so that I am able to access more of the land that I am stewarding to harvest more and clear further up the mountain. This would contribute to my well being a lot as I do not have a form of transportation at all right now and it is very difficult as a BIPOC farmer.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “My most important needs are safe housing, transportation, and clean food. Currently, I do have lots of access to clean organic local foods which I am extremely blessed for because that is the most important need for my body. I am work trading for my housing accommodations currently which is good but not having transportation makes it difficult to connect with my community as much as I would like.”
