What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “As farmers, quite often, we do not listen to our bodies and push through or make do. Whether that be physically or mentally. Most of our work is centered around mother nature who waits for no one. We, as farmers, need to listen to our bodies more. Farmers are frequently reviewed for their resiliency and perseverance. We repair equipment, tools, etc. because there simply isn't enough money in the budget or we need to make do with what we have. This leaves us with less than ideal working conditions. We push ourselves to the very core and consequently our self-care and well-being is neglected. I believe we should be turning inward and allow ourselves those moments of care we so desperately deserve. Whether that be a simple guilty pleasure or a fancy vacation.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “A cupping massage and new leather gloves are two things that would bring me self-care & well-being at this time.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Cupping massage helps relieve the chronic shoulder pain I endure. I find that attending a 60-minute session at least every two months allows me to find some momentary peace from the pain. Though I keep using them, my leather gloves are in desperate need of replacement. They no longer provide the appropriate protection they once did as they have become thin and have several holes.”
