What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care is doing anything that is taking time for your own self and replenishes you. During the farming season that can look like taking a day off to clean your house, or leaving the field to go for a swim with your kids. Anything that is for you and not just about your farming operation.”
How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I would use the award either towards a massage or towards a therapy session. These are both things that I have a hard time carving time out in the summer season, but that I value and make time for in the slower winter season.”
Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Therapy is the most important thing for me as a farmer, but also for all farmers. Especially if you are farming with a partner and if you and your partner have kids. This puts so much stress on a relationship that many times they fail. To have a thriving small farm economy we need to support those relationships so farms can survive and be handed on to the next generation.”
