RECIPIENTS

Jeremy Amico of Amico's Farm

The 274th recipient is Jeremy Amico of Amico’s Farm @amico.grows in Atlanta, GA. Amico writes:

What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care in farming looks like planning ahead and acting in accordance with nature’s timing and laws. That means doing things like creating and applying systems where the farmer doesn’t have to work as hard because it gives time for nature to work for itself. For example, mulching rows in the winter time for the purpose of warmth and water retention, so the farmer doesn’t have to water as often, and covering crops with plastic or fabric so they don’t freeze, which would force a farmer to start over.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “Right now it will give me a cushion because I broke my leg recently and I am trying to figure out new and creative ways to express my skills and knowledge for farming. I am working on an ebook and I could easily do more research with less stress of finances.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: “Mental health; not becoming overwhelmed or over-demanded.”
