What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “Self-care and well-being in farming means honoring the fact that we, as land stewards, are part of the ecosystem we care for. It’s not just about productivity—it’s about sustainability of the body, mind, and spirit. For me, it means creating rhythms that allow rest, listening to my body, protecting my mental health, and involving my family in a way that brings joy rather than burnout.”

How I might use this $250 self-care award: ”As a disabled but active woman of color, farming is also a space for healing generational wounds—reclaiming our right to the land with dignity and purpose. Well-being includes access to clean food, time in nature, and building community through our work. When we take care of ourselves, we farm from a place of wholeness—not survival—and that energy flows into everything we grow.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "The most important self-care need I have is sustainable rest and body support. Farming while managing disability and caregiving is rewarding but physically and emotionally taxing. My well-being depends on reducing pain and burnout so I can keep farming for the long haul. Access to bodywork, ergonomic equipment, and short breaks for nature, journaling, or stillness all make a difference. Even brief moments of restoration help me return to the land and my family with presence and strength. Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s the foundation of resilience and longevity in this work.”
