What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “For me, self-care and well-being in farming means taking time to rest, heal, and feel supported, both physically and emotionally. Farming is hard work, and it often means long days, heavy lifting, and carrying a lot of responsibility. When I take care of myself, I’m able to show up better for my family, my farm, and my community. Self-care can be as simple as having quiet time, going for a walk, getting a massage for sore muscles, or sharing a meal with loved ones. It’s also about having space to reflect and talk through the challenges that come with this work. Farming isn’t just physical—it can also be stressful and isolating at times. Self-care gives me strength and helps me keep going. It reminds me that taking care of myself is part of taking care of the land and the people I grow for.”


How I might use this $250 self-care award: ”I would use the $250 award to visit The Wellness Spot, a local spa in Atlanta that supports rest and recovery. A massage or wellness treatment would help relieve muscle soreness, reduce stress, and support my overall physical health. It would offer time to slow down, breathe, and reset mentally.” 


Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "One of the most important self-care needs for me as a farmer is recovery time—both physical and mental. Farming requires constant movement, decision-making, and attention to detail, often without breaks. Over time, this can lead to physical strain and emotional exhaustion. Having regular opportunities to rest my body, especially through massage or bodywork, helps prevent long-term pain and injury. Equally important is creating space to care for my mental health—whether through quiet time, reflection, or intentional moments of joy. As someone deeply committed to serving others and growing food with care, it’s easy to forget to slow down. Restoring my energy allows me to work more sustainably and avoid burnout. Having consistent support for my physical and emotional recovery—like a peaceful space to relax or simple tools to ease body pain—would make a meaningful difference in how I show up for my farm, family, and community.”
