What self-care and well-being mean to me as a farmer: “In the context of farming and ranching, self-care and well-being mean prioritizing physical, mental, and emotional health while navigating the unique challenges of agricultural life. These roles often involve long hours, physical labor, financial pressures, and the unpredictable nature of weather and markets, making intentional care essential for sustainable living.”

How I might use this $100 self-care award: “I’d use it either for a massage or a date night with my husband.”

Most important self-care needs that contribute to my well-being as a farmer: "Farming and ranching are tough, both physically and mentally, so self-care is about tackling the challenges that come with the job. Taking care of your body by resting, using tools that reduce strain, and staying active can prevent burnout and injuries. Stress is a constant with unpredictable weather, markets, and long hours, so finding ways to relax—like connecting with friends, taking breaks, or enjoying hobbies—can make a big difference. It’s also important not to let the work take over your life; setting boundaries and making time for family or personal activities helps keep things balanced. Since farming can feel isolating, staying in touch with others, whether through local groups or just catching up with a neighbor, is vital. Finally, don’t hesitate to seek help if stress or emotions get overwhelming—talking to someone can really help keep you on track. Self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.”
