Our 87th @realfarmercare recipient is Howard Allen of Faithfull Farms @faithfullfarms in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Howard writes, “I am a native of the Caribbean island Jamaica, and I grew up on a countryside farmstead where my interest in farming began alongside my father. After years as a professional chef, pastry chef, and culinary educator, I shifted back to my farming roots in Spring of 2015 at Chefgrow Gardens, a CSA Farm. In 2018 my wife Ronniqua Allen and I relaunched the farm under the name Faithfull Farms LLC. Faithfull Farms currently produces short season crops such as leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, peas shoots and other seasonal vegetables. We currently retail our produce at the Carrboro Farmers Market, local restaurants and cooperatives. Farming gives me a sense of meaningfulness within my community. I am very grateful for the privilege to be a steward of the land and all of its glory.
The pandemic has tested our business’ adaptability, agility and crop planning for 2020. We are expanding production beyond our 2020 plans in a effort to meet the growing demand. We’ve adapted an online store that has grown to twenty percent of our gross weekly sales. Most importantly, we’re currently offering a variety of methods for our community to access our products and staying connected through weekly zoom farm tours.”
